Customer Notice

DRINKING WATER WARNING
BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING

Davistown area portion of East Dunkard Water Authority system may be at increased risk from microbial contamination.  Authority providing customers with potable water tanker.

(July 27, 2024) – East Dunkard Water Authority routinely monitors the conditions in the distribution system.  Early this morning, we experienced a loss of positive water pressure due to a power failure which caused the Donley tank to drain.  A loss of positive water pressure is a signal of the existence of conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system through back-flow by back pressure or back siphonage.  As a result, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms.

This notice is for customers in the Davistown area.

DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and cool before using; or use bottled water. You should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice.

Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea and associated headaches.

These symptoms, however, are not caused only by organisms in drinking water, but also by other factors.  If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.

Guardians of infants and young children and people at increased risk, such as pregnant women, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems, should seek advice from their healthcare advisors about drinking this water.  General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1 (800) 426 4791.

What happened? What is being done?
Early this morning, a power failure caused the Donley tank to drain. East Dunkard Water Authority workers are currently refilling the tank. However, customers in the Davistown area may experience low pressure or no water service until the system has been fully restored. All water from the Donley tank remained in the distribution system.

Once the tank is filled and the system pressure is restored, East Dunkard Water Authority will begin collecting and analyzing additional water quality samples including bacteria samples.

East Dunkard Water Authority is also setting up a potable water tanker this morning at the intersection of Township Building Road and Bunner Hill Road and Pigeon Hole Road. Customers should bring their own containers to fill.

We will inform you when the corrective actions have been completed and you no longer need to boil your water.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools and businesses). The 2023 Consumer Confidence Report is Available

Each year, water utilities are required to generate a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) to provide customers with important information about the quality of your drinking water.

Although Pennsylvania America Water only became the court-ordered receiver of the East Dunkard Water Authority (EDWA) last month, we are obligated to share EDWA’s water quality performance results for 2023.

The CCR can be found online, or customers can view a hard copy at the EDWA offices Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.am – 4:00 p.m. (2790 South Eighty Eight Road Dilliner, PA 15327).

ATTENTION LANDLORDS, BUSINESSES, SCHOOLS AND OTHER GROUPS Please share this information with tenants, students and other water users at your location who are not billed customers of EDWA.

System Maintenance Announced for March 26

Starting Tuesday, March 26, East Dunkard Water Authority Crews will conduct system maintenance at 9 a.m., which may cause low-pressure or discolored water for customers living in portions of Dunkard, Greene, and Whitely Townships. The work is expected to last approximately eight hours. Customers with water quality issues are encouraged to contact East Dunkard Water Authority at 724-943-3713.

As we continue to improve EDWA’s system, we appreciate your patience.

EDWA Discolored Water Event Update

Crews worked overnight and continued investigating the cause of discolored water in the Dunkard Township area. They are still flushing portions of the water distribution system, which is expected to last approximately a week. During this time, customers may still experience low water pressure and/or discolored water.

Unlike last October's boil water event, the filtration and disinfection process at the East Dunkard Water Authority (EDWA) treatment plant was not interrupted during this recent discoloration event. The plant has and continues to operate without interruption.

The EDWA system has been experiencing issues for some time now; these problems are not new. Pennsylvania American Water is developing a more comprehensive system flushing plan to help remove the legacy issue of years of sediment accumulated in the system's water mains, contributing to water discoloration. Overcoming challenges like this recent discoloration event will require intensive maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to the EDWA water system by Pennsylvania American Water.

There are no water advisories in place. Water buffaloes are available at the East Dunkard Water Authority offices at 2790 South Eighty-Eight Road in Dilliner and the Bobtown Fire Department at 130 Larimar Avenue in Bobtown. Customers should bring containers to fill. Pennsylvania American Water will continue to provide regular updates to EDWA customers regarding planned maintenance and improvements throughout its receivership. Advance notice will be given if any planned water service disruptions may occur to complete these upgrades.

In emergencies, we will work quickly to notify customers of the situation and our actions to correct it through the system’s phone/email/text mass notification system and on the EDWA Facebook page. We apologize for any inconvenience while we improve the EDWA system.

Crews are investigating the cause of the discolored water for customers living in the Dunkard Township area and will be flushing the water distribution system in your vicinity. You may notice reduced water pressure or discolored water while we perform this work

A water buffalo is expected to be accessible to the public by 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, at the East Dunkard Water Authority offices at 2790 South Eighty-Eight Road in Dilliner. Please bring your own containers to fill.
